4.3 Visualization Frames

CVNView provides 4 visualization frames, in addition to a Quick Help Frame. These frames include the Slide Frame, the Information Mural, the Box View, and the Image Frame. While the Image Frame is only used to view single slides, the other three frames focus on providing different views on all slides or sections at once.

4.3.1 Slide Frame

The main purpose of the Slide Frame is to display all slides as thumbnail images ordered by sections over time. Slides within a section are enumerated vertically, as in a film strip. These film strips are then placed next to each other horizontally, ordered by time of appearance. Individual films strips are aligned so that they snap to the top of the screen.

By moving the mouse over any given slide, the slide is magnified in a transparent panel right over the thumbnail slide. The magnified version has been made transparent so as to not occlude the slide / mouse position on the underlying slide show. Moreover, the thumbnail slide is marked with transparent horizontal and vertical bars, so as to provide a clearer view of what slide has been moved over.

By clicking the mouse over any thumbnail slide, the slide is presented in its original version in the Image Frame.

The colored strip near the top of the frame indicates the media type for any given section. When clicking once on the colored strip above any given section, the section is selected in all frames. Since every frame displays data slightly differently, this selection method helps in locating the section in all frames. A selected section is marked with a transparent vertical bar. In order to distinguish a selected section from a marked slide, the transparent color has slightly different color values.

Should this section be part of a topic that spans multiple sections, a second click in the region that intersects the colored media type strip and the selected section selects all sections within this topic.

A third (or second) click de-selects the topic.
